Why This Machine Holds Roundness on Thin and Thick Walls

No two tube defects behave the same. A thin-wall stainless exhaust tube and a 28 mm wall hydraulic cylinder tube both need bend correction, but the press strategy cannot be the same. The system below switches between force and position control automatically.

Thin-Wall Protection

Pressure straightening through multi-point contact means no point indentations, no scratches, and no collapse on 1 mm wall stainless or copper tube. The ram dwell is capped and the support rollers are profiled to the tube OD before every run.

Thick-Wall Force Control

For heavy-wall DOM and hydraulic cylinder tube, the system ramps force in 5 kN increments while reading laser displacement. It gets to full press force without overshooting into ovality — a common failure when operators chase straightness manually.

Multi-Point Inspection

Three to five laser measurement heads track deflection along the whole tube axis, not just at the ram contact point. Spring-back at the far end shows up immediately, so the correction cycle is based on actual straightness, not a single midpoint reading.

AI Self-Learning Correction

Every correction result feeds back into the control algorithm. After 20–30 pieces, the machine has learned how much spring-back your material grade and wall thickness produce, cutting cycle time and reducing rework on the next batch.

Where Roundness Matters Most

Square Tube Straightening: A Shangda Specialty

Square tube is not round tube with corners. When you straighten a rectangular or square section, the same force that removes bow can push the side walls into a belly or collapse the corner radius. Most straightening suppliers avoid this profile because it requires different support dies, a different ram path, and more measurement points. Shangda runs square tube straightening as a core application, not an afterthought. We set the support rollers to contact the tube at the neutral axis points, measure straightness in two planes simultaneously, and adjust ram pressure so the section's flat sides stay flat while the bend comes out. The result: square and rectangular tube leaves the cell with straightness under 0.2 mm per meter and corners that still pass weld-prep and assembly checks. If your current supplier only quotes round tube, that is usually because square tube demands a machine designed from the start to handle profile shapes.
